Mice

What are Mice?

Mice are small furry animals that often live in homes among humans and typically have a body length of about 5 to 10 centimeters (2-4 inches). They have pointed noses and small ears.

House mice reproduce prolifically, with gestation lasting only three weeks and producing up to 5 pups per litter. These rodents breed quickly, keep hidden in the day, and are hard to eliminate.

They are can be found anywhere from kitchens to bedrooms, and they have a knack for finding their way into any unprotected food source.

Mice are not harmful creatures; however, a mouse infestation can lead to health concerns when they get into the garbage or spread bacteria throughout the house with their droppings.

Mice Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are Mice dangerous?

Mice are similar to rats and other rodents in that their front teeth never stop growing throughout their lifetime. In order to prevent overgrowth, they constantly chew on objects.

One of the reasons they are dangerous is because mice have a penchant for chewing things. Mice chew through wires, cables, drywall, insulation, and flooring- often causing extensive structural damage as well as--in some cases-- sparking fires.

They also chew on damaged personal items like clothing, shoes, books, and furniture.

They can be a major problem for any home or business. They contaminate food and surfaces with their urine, feces, and saliva! These rodents are responsible for spreading diseases that cause things like salmonella, hantavirus, and Leptospirosis.

The hair on their body, fur that they shed, and feces are all known to trigger allergy attacks in some people.

Why do I have a Mouse problem?

The biggest reason for the mouse problem is that they have come to rely on us humans not just for food, but also basic necessities. Mice are relentless and will take advantage of any food, water, or shelter that we unknowingly provide them.

The most common place to find they is in your backyard. They'll be found around anything that smells like food including trashcans, compost bins, and pet bowls.

You may also encounter them near bird feeders or gardens if they have a lot of tasty plants nearby!

Once comfortable foraging near our homes, they will now move inside to look for more food or find a warmer nesting place in which they will nest.

Where will I find Mice?

Mice are often found outside living in a variety of environments, including fields, parks, and woods. They may also be seen along rivers or in areas with overgrown vegetation as well as our yards!

They move into our homes and businesses because of their desire to live in areas that are quiet, out-of-the-way places. These rodent are nocturnal creatures, well known to stay in their nests during the day and come out at night foraging for food.

Typical nesting areas for these small rodents include behind large appliances, in-wall voids, and crawlspaces. They also reside in attics or basements but are more likely to be found near the kitchen area of your home as they love food!

How can I prevent Mice in the future?

Mice have been a problem in homes for years, and the best way to keep them away is by partnering with 24h Pest Pros and by implementing these prevention tips:

  • Inspect your home for signs of mice, droppings, or chew marks on food packages.
  • Seal up any holes with steel wool to keep rodents out.
  • Don't leave pet food outside overnight where it might attract mice and other animals.
  • Set mouse traps inside the house near places that you've seen them before so that you can catch them before they cause any more damage.
  • Consider installing a door sweep to keep them from coming in under the doors of your house.
  • Caulk around windows and doors where necessary, so that they won't be able to get into other rooms of your home or office space through cracks and holes.
  • Install wire mesh covers over vents leading into your home.
  • Seal cracks around your air-conditioners and any other utilities that enter the home.
  • To avoid getting these rodents, you should: make sure trash cans and compost bins are covered tightly with lids.
  • Bird feeders are a point of attraction for them.
  • Keep your storage areas inside of the home organized to provide fewer hiding spots for them.
